We got a new song at class this week called a Frog went a Hoppin. We did the elephant walk to the Jungle Rhythm song. We played along on our bells to I’ve been to Harlem in both happy and sad versions.
Science:
In our marine biology class we learned about coral and how it shoots out eggs. We learned that there is a tiny algae on the coral that gives it the colors.
We went to the butterfly biosphere and watched the leaf cutter ants. We learned about the different kinds of ants that work together in the group. There are five kinds of ants and they have different jobs.
We also learned about how rock arches form. The ocean overflowed the land here to the west of the Rocky Mountains a bunch of time and deposited about 5000 feet of salt. Overtime that got covered in rock layers, which got bent and deformed due to tectonic forces. Eventually water got into the area and dissolved some of the salt and left the harder rock arches intact. Also some of the rock was softer and got worn down by rain that was kind of acidic.
L. Arts:
MAX- I did some lessons in my language arts program. I read the story The Bat. I finished Ricky Ricotta’s Might Robot vs Jurassic Jackrabbits from Jupiter.
MALI- I learned the phonogram TH. It’s kind of tricky for me but I am getting more familiar with it. I read a couple stories in my reader. I did some Reading Eggs.
Math:
MAX- my workbook lessons were on numbers between 10-20. In Dreambox I did lessons on square units and dividing rectangles evenly.
MALI- I did dreambox lessons. Some were on greater than/less than, and some were on finding numbers 9, 10, and 11 more or less than a number on a 100 chart.
History:
We didn’t have history this week. We did learn about Nigeria in our co-op Explore the World class. Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa with about 188 million people. We learned how to play Ayoayo which is kind of like Mancala.
Tech (Engineering):
Tech (Engineering):
We built some towers out of foam blocks at the butterfly biosphere. The blocks kind of had rounded edges so it was tricky to stack them. We would put two triangle blocks together to make squares since there weren’t many squares.

Other:
We went on a Leap Day Adventure to Moab, Utah. We stayed in an AirBnB and saw petroglyphs and hiked to Corona Arch. We got some fun souvenirs, too. Mali got a new plush sloth, Max got a jeep toy car, a small funny penguin plush, and a clay turtle.
