Mali Week 11

For math this week we played a lot of Racko. I didn't like it at first but then I got to understand it better and liked it more. I won three rounds! I also went over even and odd numbers and used our number scale to find the missing numbers in some math problems.

We did all of our music practice but our teacher ended up having to cancel class because her baby was sick.

We made fun little Among Us characters out of polymer clay.

I did more lessons in my Toe By Toe. We finished our read aloud book of Craftily Ever After.

For science one of our lessons was on how pool chlorine works and chemical bonds. We also talked about chlorophyll and why leaves change color.

Max Week 11

For coding this week I did an app that was already programmed but I had to make some changes. It was little aliens going into a wormhole and I had to adjust the location, the speed, and the sound. It was good because I learned a little more about how the variables work in coding.

We also did some missions on our Turing Tumble. I really like it. It is challenging.

We played a lot of rounds of Racko this week as part of math. I won the very first round but didn't win any of the other ones.

I read some more Flat Stanley. Did lessons in my language arts program.

We did all of our music practice but our teacher ended up having to cancel class because her baby was sick.

For history we learned about the influence on China on Korea and Japan.

Max - Week 10

This week I did more coding on our Osmo App. I have earned lots of the pets that you can earn.

I also did one of my Bitsbox apps. It is a drawing robot app. I learned how to adjust the width of the burn line. It was funny when I made it so thick that it filled up the screen with one line. Here it is:

Bernie the Artbot

In Science class we learned about acids and bases and the teacher made cabbage juice dye to show how it changes colors when it is exposed to an acid or a base.

I read some stories in my language arts reader. I practiced words with hard and soft C & G. To practice  my spelling words I learned to finger spell them in sign language.

I got a haircut from mom this week.

We were able to put the chicks in their big coop/run outside  for a few hours during the week because the weather was nice. It was fun because we could go in there with them. I like to watch them.

We watched the presidential debate. Trump said “I am the least racist person in this room,” which we though was funny because Biden’s running mate is a black woman and the moderator was also not white.

New haircut!

Mali - Week 10

One thing I did this week was to practice my math facts with our triangle math cards. It is fun because we put poker chips over the answer and I would see how fast I could answer them.

In music class we are playing a song called Halloween is Coming. The second verse has a spooky sound and it is fun to play.

We went on a family nature walk in Payson Canyon. I used my dad's phone to take some pictures because I didn't take my camera.

In history we learned about a couple of the dynasties of China. One of the emperors constructed the Grand Canal but because he had forced people to work on it and they couldn't farm for their families, he was not a good leader.

I made this little crown for my mouse out of buttons, wire, and embroidery floss.

Max - Week 9

This week I did a BitsBox coding activity. It was fun. But my favorite thing this week was the Osmo Coding set we got. I have spent a lot of time using it since we got it on Thursday. There are tiles you connect to make the characters move around to reach different goals.

Also in Science class for our activity this week we learned about levees and built our own out of flour and water. We first tried building one out of dry rice and beans and it didn't work at all. You need smaller particles to stop the water.

We stopped and fed some ducks and there were two geese there!
I had never been this close to one before!

Week 9 - Mali

One math activity this week was really fun. I made up a game and we started playing it on a 100 chart on paper but then decided to play it on our big 100 Mat. You would roll two dice (we used our big wooden dice) and move that many spots. For the second round, we added some of our number beanbags to a few numbers based on which cards we pulled out of our 100 deck. If you landed on a number with a number bean bag you could choose to bounce yourself ahead that many or bonk another player back that many. It was fun.  We played it again the next day and added even more number beanbags.

They are so big!

I wasn't sad I don't know why my face looks like this.
I was probably talking.

Max - Week 8

I made an app with a spaceship and the cows and the cows get pulled up into the spaceship. Then I replaced the cows with penguins and changed the sound to a squawk. I also noticed I could change the icon for for the apps so I made a custom icon for my penguin app. On the cow app I kept thinking I did something wrong because nothing was happening. I finally figured out that you had to click on the screen for it to start doing anything.

In my language arts program I learned about compound words and we made some little compound word books (see picture below).

We got chicks this week. I named the one I get to name Fluffer.

Mali - Week 8

This week I had to meet with a doctor up in Salt Lake two times to do an assessment to see if I have dyslexia. I got to eat sushi for lunch after. So that made it so I didn't get as much of my regular school done. We got six chicks. Three are little and mostly brown and the same kind. and two are yellow. The last one is yellow and brown. I practiced my photography and took some pictures of them.  I made a pumpkin craft that I found on Safari. I also drew a picture of "The Fountain of Death" for a Halloween decoration.

Here are some of the pictures I took a couple weeks ago at the river trail. We didn't get them off of my camera until today. Also the ones I took using the self-timer when we went hammocking up the canyon.

Here are pictures I took of the chicks. The ones that have funny lighting are because of the red heat lamp in their cage that they live in right now.

This is a picture I tried editing in the camera. Kind of tricky because the screen is pretty small so I missed a spot of grass.
