Week 8 - Mali

Language Arts: We did Reading Eggs activities this week a couple of times. We reviewed sounds of the letters we have learned and went over ways to remember which is lowercase b and which is lowercase d. Lowercase d has the “doughnut” come first and lowercase b has the “bat” come first.

Math: We practiced counting with the numbers 11-20. We also played some MathSeeds. We built with the math blocks and played “What’s under the cup?” I wrote the numbers 1-16 on a piece of tape on our Spielgaben blocks. We made patterns with Spielgaben and explored the different shapes we could make with a row of blocks taped together.

Tumbling & Trampolining: Our teacher said we were doing really good at improving our skills, especially for being in Level 1. We are supposed to practice our jumps at home on our trampoline outside but it has been really cold.

Other: At co-op in our body class we learned about the brain and made models of the different brain parts with play-doh (see pictures). We learned about elephants in our animal class and how they are really good at smelling. We did an activity where we smelled different things in cups and tried to identify them. We also did an elephant pumpkin craft. There are two kinds of elephants--African and Asian.

Week 7 Report - Max

Language Arts: We practiced short and long vowel sounds. Mom read us one of the Princess in Black books again. We got our Reading Eggs subscriptions activated and did some lessons/activities.

Math: Counted to 100. Did some lessons and games on Mathseeds. Built with Spielgaben. Sang skip counting songs in the car.

Tumbling & Trampolining: Practiced our different skills. A lot of them we don’t really know the names for. There are some we do on the really big trampoline, which is fun because you can jump really high. We do X-jumps and toe-touches on that one.

Other: Our brother ordered a longboard and it came in a big box. We had a lot of fun playing in it. At co-op in our Human Body class we learned about how the blood with the oxygen flows around the heart and how the blood gets oxygen from the lungs. In our Amazing Animals class we learned about octopuses and how they suck up water and then squirt it out so they can move quickly. They are really good at camouflage and can also release ink to make it so they can get away. We found lots of worms after the rain on Friday. We picked some of them off the sidewalk and out of the gutter and put them back on the grass so they wouldn't die. My brother and I had fun making brick domino chains. The one I made that is in the video below didn't do the laying flat thing at the end like it was supposed to because I had to move a brick because of the sidewalk crack.

Max's Weekly Report - Week 6

Language Arts: This week we did a cut & paste activity matching some lower case and upper case letters. We also wrote the vowels on the back door windows with window crayons and practiced the sounds and some "-at" words on the white board to practice.

Math: We practiced counting from 11-20. We used our Spielgaben to make designs and pixel art.

Tumbling & Trampolining: We worked on forward rolls, bridges, and keeping our arms even distance apart when they are above our heads for jumps. We also did our regular trampoline practice. We are supposed to practice our cartwheels at home.

Other: At co-op we learned about Mt. Everest and made clay versions of Mt Everest. In our Amazing Animals class we learned about arctic foxes and how they change color with the seasons. We also learned about other animals and their camouflage. Arctic foxes often hunt things under the snow and they can only hear them and smell them, so we played a game where one person was blindfolded and everyone else had a bell on their wrist. The blindfolded person had to hunt the other people just by listening (see video).

Max Week 5 Report

Language Arts: We reviewed vowel sounds and the consonants H and C. I did some Hooked On Phonics on the iPad. We practiced writing letters.

Math: We practiced counting. We played with manipulatives from the Spielgaben.

Tumbling & Trampolining: We worked on cartwheels. There is a new big trampoline at the tumbling gym that we got to jump on. We practiced 360 degree jumps.

Other: We got a new double stomp rocket from our grandparents for our birthday. We had a lot of fun playing with it this week. We also had fun at the Curiosity Museum. At co-op in our body class we stuck labels on a bunch of the major muscles in our bodies, over our clothes. It was funny. There are a lot of muscles.
