Week 33

This week was the last week of our jump pass so we went to Lowe's and jumped. We learned about tarantulas. We went to Makerspace. We did math lessons and language arts. We started listening to the book Howliday Inn.

Mali: I started reading the first Ricky Ricotta book. I did the drawings you can see below.

Max: I decided to play the Pink Panther song for our recital in June so I will keep practicing that. This week I worked on a Zelda song, In the Hall of the Mountain King (a new one), and Greensleeves. I passed of Greensleeves after only one week. My mom and I joked that now I'm ready for Purplepants.

Max finished up the 5th grade decimals lessons.

Playing Pentago with Mom. We each won a few games
and lost track of who won how many.

Week 32

This week for geography we learned about Lichtenstein and Switzerland. Lichtenstein is the 6th smallest nation in the world. In Geography we learned about the British takeover of India and how it was kind of weird because it was largely done by the company of the East Indies Trading Company. That would be like Costco taking over to rule a country today. We listened to the audiobook of Bunnicula. We went and jumped at Lowes. We went on a bike ride.

Max: I've been working on different operations with decimals for math. I am still reading the Ultimate Spider-Man series.

Mali: I read a whole story backwards. It was fun! Mom doesn't want me to read all my reading assignments backwards though. In Math I learned about factors and also equal number sentences.

We went downtown with mom and got a cinnamon roll
and boba smoothies

We also went out for dinner at JJs Burgers

Week 31

We went to watch a play of Cinderella at the SCERA this week. It was pretty silly and fun.

We went and jumped at Lowes.

We learned about Austria and Hungary in Geography this week. We also talked about the Turkish invasion of Austria in our history lesson, so it was kind of cool how those two overlapped just by chance.

We listened to the audiobook of James and the Giant Peach and finished that this week.

Max: In Math this week I learned about estimating by rounding off and also comparing decimals, as well as some other things. In my language arts I finished reading the story about Pedro and did a timeline project on the events in the book. I read more spider-man comics.

Mali: In math this week I learned about factors and multiples. I started a spelling program. I wrote some sentences about the Cinderella play. I did a lot of crafting--I learned how to make these cool dragon puppets and I made a few of them.

Week 30

This week we started listening to the James and the Giant Peach audiobook. The guy who reads it does really good voices for all the characters. We learned about Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Luxembourg is really small! And only has a population of about 600,000 people. We did language arts assignments and writing practice. While we listen to the audiobook we get to work on crafts or art projects. In Math we both worked more on division. We went to the BYU Planetarium for a show this week and that was really cool. We learned about Peter the Great, the Russian czar, in history.

Week 29

We went and helped our cousin paint her new townhouse. We finished listening to the Holes audiobook this week. While we were listening we did different craft projccts. We learned about Lithuania and Belarus for geography. We watched a couple of informative videos on the Chernobyl nuclear disaster that happened in the 1980s. We went sledding with our mom & dad. We had some family friends come over and we played a game called And Then... where you write a sentence of a little story and then you pass it along to the next person to write the next part. It was fun. Some of the stories even kind of made sense, even though you don't know what came before your part when you are writing it.

Max: In math I am workin on long division. its hard to remember the order of the steps and what the steps are but I am getting the hang of it. I had a piano lesson this week. I just started with a new teacher a couple weeks ago. One song I am learning is the Pink Panther theme song. It is fun but hard. I am working on getting the left hand learned and playing it together with the right hand. I made some perler bead projects. I did a Kirby, Mario, and Link from Zelda. The Kirby took a loooong time.

Mali: I am learning simple division in math right now. I really wanted to make a collage but we didn't have any magazines around so I made a sticker collage. Then I made another one because I thought it would be fun to make one and take a time lapse of it.
