We are listening to the audiobook of Holes. For geography we learned about Estonia and Latvia. We went and jumped at Lowes a couple times. We did clay sculpting at MakerSpace this week.
This week one thing we did was talk about the Provo River Delta Restoration Project, which is going on near our house. Our dad told us how it was something that was being planned back when he was in graduate school almost 20 years ago. One of the reasons it was going to happen was because of the endangered June Sucker fish. Mom and Dad told us about how endangered species are one of the main ways that areas can get protection and funding for restoration because of the way the laws are set up. They told us about the spotted owl in the old growth forests in Oregon and Washington. We rode our bikes out to see the Delta Project. They have brought in truckloads of rocks and boulders as they are creating the delta. We are going to go out every week to check it out. It is supposed to "open" in early March.
This week we went and jumped at Lowe's a couple of times. We learned about Metacom who was chief of the Wampanoag tribe, and we learned about King Phillip's War and how it was a real hard thing against the Native American tribes of the area. We talked about the differences between the English settlers and the Native Americans in how they viewed their relationship with the land. Since we finished reading Matilda this week we watched the movie of it. It was fun. There were a lot of differences. Matilda's powers were a lot different in the movie--she did a lot more things with them than she did in the book, and in the movie she didn't lose her powers at the end.
Max: I finished reading the story Carlotta as part of my language arts program and wrote a short summary of the story. I started the multiplication section in my math. I read more Spidey comics.
Mali: I am still working on division in math. I did my explode the code and other writing practice. I made some drawings.
This week we went and jumped at Lowes for PE.
We had our regional tournament for First Lego League. We presented our project and ran our robot programs. It was at the Provo Rec Center. It was fun but we didn't move on to state this year.
