Week 14

We learned about North and South Korea and Vietnam and Myanmar and Laos for Geography.  We also watched a bunch of science videos on YouTube about a variety of topics, including why Geese fly in a V formation, how the Petrified Forest fossils were made (we went there in the spring of 2021), about Vantablack and Musou black, and other topics as well.

Max: I read some picture books this week for my reading time. I am almost finished with my language arts book so I was doing the final reviews this week. Attaching a table that shows my math assignments for this week.

Mali: I read more Henry & Mudge books. In Math my mom really spent a lot of time with me helping me understand multi digit subtraction with regrouping. It was hard for me to understand, so we used our math blocks and just kept practicing. By the end of the week I was doing pretty well and could remember the steps most of the time.

Week 13

This week we had parkour class. We worked on different types of jumps.  We also went on a scooter ride down the river trail. There were tons of leaves on the trail which was fun. We would slide one foot along and get big piles of leaves scooped up.

We watched The Addams Family movie and then went to a play production of The Addams Family at Lone Peak High School. My brother's girlfriend was in the play so that was why we went. It was fun.

We also went and saw the new Black Panther movie, Wakanda Forever. It was really good.

In Geography we learned about Taiwan and Singapore. In history we learned about the start of slavery into the colonies in Virginia. Tobacco was so profitable that people wanted to be able to grow more and more of it, but it was a crop that required a lot of hand labor to tend and harvest. It's pretty sad that people were enslaved so people could get rich off of tobacco.

Mali: In math I worked on 3 and 4 digit subtraction. I understand them now but they take so long to do each problem. I read Henry and Mudge and The Long Weekend.

Max: I enjoyed reading in the Guiness Book of World Records 2023 that my mom bought this week. I am working on different types of measurements and comparing measurements in math. I wrote a short paragraph about my two favorite types of dinosaurs.

Week 12

This week in Maker Space we started learning about stop motion. We learned about New Amsterdam becoming New York in history. This year for Dia de los Muertos we didn't do a formal activity but we set up our ofrienda and had mexican pastries. Dinovember started this week and that's always fun.

Mali: I read Henry and Mudge "The Long Weekend" and also another Henry and Mudge book. I did my workbook stuff. I am starting on 3 digit subtraction but it is confusing to me so my mom and I are going to work with math blocks to help me understand it better.

Max: I finished the Captain Underpants book I was reading. In math I did perimeter and other types of measures.
