Week 18

We learned about India and the Moghul rulers for history this week. We learned about how three decisions of one of the rulers really weakened India and ended up leading to it being overtaken by British rule. We also learned about Angkor Wat because we are going to the exhibit up at the NHMU over Christmas break. 

Mali: I made a painting based on a photo I took of our shed in the backyard. I really liked how the red shed looked in the white snow. I made some clay figures, little dinosaurs.  I am giving one to my sister for part of her christmas gift. I did language arts workbooks, and flashcards, and writing practice. I learned about multiplying by multiples of 10. 

Max: I did math this week. Passed off the lessons on different kinds of graphs and also learned about chance in everyday events. I did language arts and reading and writing. I am reading a story about a girl named Carlotta. It takes place around the 1920s. The family is saving money to buy a truck for their farm. We looked up how much cars and trucks cost in the 1920s and you could get a model T ford for as low as $3-400.

Week 17

 We finished up Asia in Geography. The last countries we learned about this week were Indonesia and Brunei. In history we learned about the isolation policy of Japan and how in part it happened as a response to the 30 Years War between the Catholics and the Protestants.

We did our TTRS lessons. 

Mali: I practiced multiplication this week and did my Xtra Math.  Read some and did Explode the Code and writing. I went skiing with my dad and brother. 

Max: I read in my book and did my language arts lesson. I had to write a paragraph about what I look like so we took a picture of my eye to figure out how to describe the color, so then we took a picture of my mom's, brother's, and sister's eye to compare them.

Weeks 15 & 16

 For PE we had one parkour class and also we went bowling. Bowling was fun.  Oh, we also went to Top Golf for the first time. We weren't very good but our mom was worse. Our dad was really good though. He's actually golfed before so that makes sense. 

In geography we learned about Malaysia and Vietnam and the Philippines. In history we learned about the 30 Years War and how it actually lasted around 40 years and how it was pretty much pointless because neither side really won. 

Mali: I have been reading sections from My First Animal Encyclopedia for reading practice and then writing a couple of sentences in my notebook. I read sections about crabs, aardvarks, and squirrels. 

In Math I finished the section with addition and subtraction and am starting the multiplication section. We did a fun activity where we roll two dice and mark off that size of section in a 100 grid square and see who can fill it up with the fewest rolls. 

Max: This week I started reading the Horrible Science book The Fight for Flight. In Math I finished up Plane Shapes and Solids. I did lessons on Grid Coordinates, Axis of Symmetry, and some others.
