Mali & Max Week 15 & 16

In science this week we started learning about bodies and body systems. One of the slides they showed was this one below but they didn't have the answers on it yet (in the blue boxes). The other slide we thought was really cool because it shows just how small a lot of particles are. Things that are so tiny are kind of hard to even comprehend.

In music class we started a new song Turkey in the Straw. In this song the melody is played sometimes by the right hand and sometimes by the left hand, which makes it kind of tricky. Most of the songs we have played only have the melody in the right hand. We also learned the Bass clef space notes ACEG. The usual way to remember it is "All Cows Eat Grass" but our mom came up with All Chickens Eat Grapes because our chickens love grapes.

Mali & Max Week 14

In History we learned about the Mayan, Aztec, and Incan civilizations. There are still groups of Mayan people today who have retained some of. their culture from long ago and some of their languages. I think that is pretty cool

We went to HeeHaws Farm with a group of homeschoolers on a field trip this week. We were really glad it didn't rain because it has rained a lot lately.

Mali: I have been working on place value and rounding in my math lessons.

Max: I have been working on multiplying in my math lessons. I have gone over the x3 and the x5 and x2 tables.

Mali & Max week 13

Our dad had a day off work this week so he was able to go to the aquarium with us. He hadn't been before even though most of the rest of the family has been a couple times. This time the penguins were not molting so we got to see them swim around. Gentoo penguins are the fastest swimmers and can swim up to 22 miles per hour. For our writing assignment later in the week we wrote about a couple of the animals we saw there.

We got jump ropes this week and are practicing learning/getting better at jump ropes.

In Music class we are now playing our Alouette song with both hands together. It is the hardest one we have done. The hands alternate playing the melody so that makes it tricky. We have learned all the note names for the treble clef so we practice those with our flash cards.

We went on a scooter ride along the river trail and fed the ducks and played on the swings.

They had fun pirate and mermaid and explorer skeletons at the aquarium.

Lion fish

We always get a penguin donut there if they have them.

We also got this giant rice crispy cube and calculated its
volume. It was 4"x4"x3.5"=56 cubic inches

Mali learned how to use the potholder loops to make bracelets
by finger "knitting" and has had fun making a few this week.

Mai & Max Week 12

One thing we did this week was the egg experiment we saw demonstrated in our science class. First we dissolved the shell in a glass of vinegar. Our egg at that point weighed 62g. Then we put it in a glass of regular water for a couple of days and it got up to 70g. After that we put it in a glass of corn syrup and it lost almost all of the water inside and the yolk felt really hard and solid. At that point it weighed 24g. Then we put it BACK in the water and it hydrated back up to plump. Pretty crazy. It was a good way to understand how osmosis works.
