Mali & Max - week 6

One day this week we watched a bunch of educational shows. We watched the first episodes of One Strange Rock on Disney+ and The Mind Explained on Netflix. And we finished up Penguin Town on Netflix.

Max: I learned about the things that make oxygen on the earth. Diatoms make between 20 and 40% of the oxygen on earth. One of the things the diatoms eat is the earth from glaciers.

Mali: I asked my mom why the episode about the mind kept talking about 9/11. She said that is because it was an event that happened that many people experienced and remembered. I thought it was interesting because that is my and my twin brother’s birthday, so we mostly just think of that when we think of 9/11.

Mali - Week 5

We went to Timpanogos Cave. The hike up was really steep. I just wore my pajama tee shirt because we left our house at 7:30 in the morning and my pajama shirt is comfortable. The cave was really neat even though the tour was kind of long. I was ready for it to be done when it was finally over. There are some animals that can live in the cave, like millipedes and crickets and spiders. It would be weird to live your whole life in the dark.

So cool when light is shined into it

I really liked this leaf along the trail

After the cave we went out to Apollo burger
and I got a BLT. It was really delicious.

Max - Week 5

We went to Timpanogos Cave. It was cool and big and fun. I liked how the formations were really colorful. There were a lot of stalactites and they were cool. There were some really skinny ones that are called soda straws and some crazy twisted ones called helictites.

Max Week 4

This week we got to go see the Chalk the Block festival which was fun. We also got to go to the Business Card Art Show at the JKR Gallery. There were some really neat pieces of art. It was fun because the chalk art was huge but the business card art was tiny!

Our friends did this one. They got an Honorable Mention.

This was done by a professional. Its the Chalk Bus, and the owner
of it is a friend of mom & dad's. It is covered in chalkboard paint and all of the cool
stuff is just chalk on top of that.

Mali - Week 4

This week we started our new science class for this semester. We are learning about biology so the lesson was on how to tell if something is alive. There are some characteristics of living things like responding to stimuli and also keeping a consistent inner state. Fire isn’t alive even though it uses energy (fuel) and can move because it doesn’t maintain a consistent inner state. Here’s a little picture from our workbook that I colored:

Max - week 3

My brother and I defeated the Ender Dragon in Minecraft! It was my first time doing it. We also collected a dragon egg.

My dad and mom and I were talking about space travel and how the closest star besides our sun is 4 1/2 light years away. We calculated that with the fastest space vehicle that humans have made, which can travel 5% of the speed of light, it would take about 90 years to get there.

We played Trouble.

We went to the pool a couple times this week. Here is a silly picture my mom took of me. It made us laugh because the angle is so weird.

Mali - week 3

This week I baked cookies and I also baked brownies. I did most of the measuring and mixing myself.

I also learned about interest and loans. My mom explained them to us because Scrooge McDuck got a loan from a bad guy to get equipment to pan for gold in the Yukon and he had to make payments back. We are reading The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck again.

We went to the park one night and had fun playing keep away and mother elephant and other games.
