Week 28 - Mali

One day this week I read all 10 of the little reader books in a set. I kept working on my Toe By Toe lessons. I did some handwriting and some Explode the Code.

The best thing this week was sewing chickens! I had a craft in mind that I made but it didn't turn out like I wanted to. My mom helped me look for something else to do and we found these fun beanbag chicks. I ended up making quite a few, including three for my friends. We had a lot of fun making them. We even went to another friend's house and taught her and her mom how to make them. There was quite a bit I could do to make them, but my mom helped me with some parts. On Saturday we made a big chicken for me. My mom had already tried out the pattern earlier in the week.

I learned about quadrilaterals in math. We practiced our doubles and making ten facts. We also learned a new math game called Zeus on the Loose.

My friend Jane got roller skates which is great because now I have a friend to roller skate with.

In History we learned about Marco Polo and the Silk Road.  We also finished watching the video series about Genghis Khan that we started last week.

In Science we learned more about the atmosphere and the Ozone layer. We started an experiment of growing seeds in jars. We are growing one in natural light and one with only artificial light.

I arranged these tiles during math 6+2=8

Week 28 - Max

This week a thing I had a lot of fun playing with was our PlusPlus blocks. I built a lot of different things. We don't have any good skin colors in our set, though, so we found a couple more sets to order so I can make people with skin colored faces.

This week I worked on my lessons. In math we learned about quadrilaterals. They have four sides and they have to have straight lines and be a closed shape. We practiced our doubles and making ten facts. We also learned a new math game called Zeus on the Loose.

In History we learned about Marco Polo and the Silk Road.  We also finished watching the video series about Genghis Khan that we started last week.

Week 27 - Max

I learned to play a new game for math. It is Doubles Memory. I did ST Math. I did my language arts lessons. We played Trash Pandas with mom and dad. I read a lot more in book 4 of Bone.  I played Battleship with my mom and I won! She couldn't find my patrol boat (the little one).

A picture I drew of my own version of the Himalayan mountains

For a LA lesson I identified nouns in this painting

I wrote some sentences with my spelling words. Mom helped me draw a plane
and then I colored it.

One of our assignments for music class was to put these letter labels on the keys to
get familiar with their names

My mom gave me this little Vision guy. I like him.

Week 27 - Mali

One fun thing I did this week was to make some puppets out of some wooden shapes we have and make a puppet show. I recorded it on an iPad. I also went skiing. I did my lessons. We learned a new math game to practice our doubles additions. We watched a bunch of Extra History videos on YouTube about Genghis Khan. There are 7 videos and we watched the first 5. We will finish them next week. I like them. The animation is fun. We played Trash Pandas with mom and dad.

Mali - Week 26

I read three of the books from our Usborne set: Bad Jack Fox, Dog Diary, and Grizzly Bear Rock. I also did my Toe By Toe lessons. We got a new Johnny Boo book that mom read to us at bedtime one night. I wrote a valentines letter to my grandparents.

We learned about evolution and Charles Darwin for Darwin Day (February 12). One of our traditions is to get Darwin Day Donuts so we did that, too.

In science we learned about climate zones. We made a cool quadorama (like a diorama but with four sides) about different climate zones. Climate zones are mostly determined by the amount of water an area receives, which is determined by where it is on the earth and how much sunlight a place gets, combined with the patterns of the wind/air currents. I thought the quadorama was really fun so I decided to make a holiday themed one.

I did some RightStart Math lessons. One thing we went over was odd and even numbers and +1 and +2. We also played more of Go to the Dump which is good practice for making 10s.

We had music class.

Week 26 - Max

In my language arts book I went over the KN phonogram and also used paper tiles to spell QU words. I am reading Bone book 4 now.

I did ST Math lessons. Also some RightStart Math lessons. One thing we went over was odd and even numbers and +1 and +2.

We learned about evolution and Charles Darwin for Darwin Day (February 12). One of our traditions is to get Darwin Day Donuts so we did that, too. I learned how to play backgammon which was a game Charles Darwin played pretty much every day with his wife. It is a fun game.

I had swimming lessons this week.

Week 25 - Max

I finished Level 1 of my Language Arts program! I started it in January of 2020 so it took just barely over a year. So now I have Level 2 and am working on that.

I had three swimming lessons this week. I am getting a lot better with my dive! One day was warm enough that they opened the cover to the pool, so that was neat.

I did ST Math lessons in addition to our math lessons. We played Go to the Dump to practice making 10s.

We watched the animated Robin Hood movie because we learned about Robin Hood in history. We learned that it is a really popular story to make into movies. One reason is that it is such an old legend that nobody owns the copyright to it.

FINISHED!

Whoo hoo!

Playing Go to the Dump

We did a Valentine exchange with some other My Tech High families. Here is a
picture of Mali and I working on ours.

Those two white and brown spots on the lake are bald eagles.

We went to the lake to pick up trash. And also to feed ducks and have fun.

Week 25 - Mali

This week for math we learned a game called Go to the Dump. It is like Go Fish but you make matches by making pairs of two numbers that add up to ten. We also introduced the place value cards.

I drew some pictures of a little character style I designed. I also made some fun pipe cleaner people with bead faces.

This week we didn't have a music class but we still practiced our music assignments.

I had a cold so that was not fun.

I paper mached and painted my cardboard ukulele.
