L. Arts:
Max - I did Unit 2 Review and Unit 2 Assessment. I did a handwriting page. I started Unit 3. I started reading the story Flat Stanley.

Mali - On nessy I practiced reading and making words with beginning and ending consonant blends. I did a handwriting page and colored the picture. I like how it turned out. My reading lesson with mom also focused on beginning consonant blends. They are kind of tricky

Math
Max - I did Dreambox lessons on how to use known basic facts and double one factor and halve the other to determine the product of a more challenging problem. I also did some workbook pages.

Mali - I did some workbook pages. I finished up shapes and patterns and did more practice with ordinal numbers.

Science:

We learned about sound and analog and digital recordings. We learned about the visible light spectrum. We went into an abandoned old house and saw a bunch of barn swallow nests and the barn swallows were swooping all around and in and out of the house.

History:
We learned about Butch Cassidy and stopped at his childhood home in Circleville Utah. In our history curriculum we learned more about Julius Caesar. He gained loyalty from his army and that helped him take over as dictator. We learned about Cleopatra and her brother and her alliance with Caesar so she could get rid of her brother. Caesar was killed by the Senate because they didn’t support that he’d made himself king of Rome. We also saw petroglyphs this week at Parowan Gap.

Music:
We did our last homework assignment. We recorded some songs for our recital.

Tech:
We made a crown out of weeds and plants in the backyard. Mali also made a pipe cleaner tiara.

We went on a ride up West Mountain with a jeep group mom joined

Week 38

History:
We learned about Julius Caesar and his rise to power. He got really popular with the people and convinced them to make him a third consul even though the whole point was to have two to keep each other in check. The people really liked him, though, so he ended up becoming even more popular and was able to take over.

Science:
We learned more about the Electromagnetic spectrum and more specifically about microwaves. We watched a BrainPop about the electromagnetic spectrum. We went to the Tulip Festival at thanksgiving point gardens. It was really pretty. So many different colors and varieties of tulips. They even had some old species of tulips, like what they looked like before people started cultivating them.

L. Arts:
Max- I did more practice of er/ir/ur words. I wrote a Mother’s Day card and mailed it to my grandma in Idaho. I read some stories in my lesson reader.
Mali- I did Nessy lessons. I did a lesson with mom. I read the next book in my reader. It is about a turtle named Gump.

Math:
Max- In Dreambox I used partial products to fill in a number line using 1 group more or one group less. Trying to remember simple math facts to help figure out the trickier ones.

Mali- in my workbook i did more shape patterns and reviewed names of 3-dimensional solids.i did some Dreambox as well and played an addition app on the iPad.

Tech:
We have been decorating wooden people cutouts to look like different superheroes. We made some for our mom for her birthday.
Mali- I made some large paper creatures that were connected with tape so I could fold them easily for storage. I also made some butterfly decorations for our bedroom door.

Some flowers at the Tulip Festival

We did a family spa night and it was fun

Mom got a hammock! It's a great place to read

We decorated rocks and hid them around the neighborhood.

Twins in the hammock. Mali is hiding

Spelling with the letters

Mali's sloth helping with spelling

O I C U R M T = oh I see you are empty

Max & Mom at the Tulip Festival

More flowers

Mali made this tower out of things we cleaned out of Dad's office

Mali's paper monster (1 of them). We went ahead and traced over the pencil lines
with sharpie so they would show up better after we took this photo

Butterflies!

Dad's giant sloth (also brought home from his office) joined the twins for
their Zoom music class

Mali drew these two versions of essentially the same picture. She really liked the shading on the cat.

Week 37

Math:
Mali- In this unit the use of two strategies in particular were encouraged: "using doubles" (for example, 7 + 8 = 7 + 7 + 1) and "making ten" (for example 9 + 7 = 10 + 6).
Max- did Dreambox lessons and some workbook lessons. My Dreambox was on jumping along the number line for multiplication. Also some more graph problems.

L. arts:
Max- I had a lesson about er/ir/ur. Did a writing activity with OO words. Finished reading the Ricky Ricotta book I was reading which was the last one in the series.
Mali- In Nessy one of my activities was to read a sentence that was a clue and figure out which word it went with. I also read the Tin Raft story in my AAR lesson and then did a matching activity with pictures/sentences from the book.

History:
we learned about Shi Huangdi, the first emperor of China. He started the Great Wall of China’s construction and also had a huge tomb built for himself underground. He had a lot of terra-cotta soldiers and horses built to guard his tomb. Archaeologists only discovered this tomb not very long ago. We watched a video on it and it is really big and elaborate. Pretty cool.

Science:
we learned about the electromagnetic spectrum. Waves are all around us but the only part of the spectrum we see is called the Visible Light spectrum.

Music:
we had a music class. We practiced songs on our bells. We only have one more week of class.

Tech (Maker):
We built with Legos. We assembled our 9 square set and played in the backyard.
