Mali - Week 18

Our piano book has three Christmas songs that we can play with the chords we know. I like playing them. I also copied the words from two of the songs down onto paper. It was hard because there are a lot of dashes in them to help with singing. It took me a while to do.

We went to Utah Lake because the edges of it are frozen. It was really cool. We climbed around on the rocks and broke some pieces of ice and also found a giant piece of driftwood. Even though it was big it was all dried out so it didn't weigh very much.

I've been making a lot of Christmas cards and crafts. I made a banner of Christmas trees to hang up in our house.

When we learned about seeds a few weeks ago, I scooped the seeds from a grape tomato and planted them in a cup. Some sprouted and we moved them to a larger pot. Then even MORE sprouted and they are growing really well!

Max - Week 18

I have really been enjoying playing Christmas songs for my piano practice. We know three chords but we can play quite a few songs with them. I also have been figuring out how to play the notes to "Joy to the World".

We went to Utah Lake and had fun seeing the ice. It is pretty amazing. When you throw it on the rocks it sounds like breaking glass. I didn't even realize how see through this big piece was until I looked at the photo later on my mom's phone.

Max Week 17

I coded three new apps this week. On "Bling this Thing" I had fun listening to different sounds and deciding which one I wanted my gems to make. I also added the monster into the gems because I like him.

Oddball Airport

Firework Frenzy

Bling This Thing

I finished reading Flat Stanley in Space. In my Language Arts program I went over the different sounds of EA.

We played a game called Blobby's Pizza as part of math. It has monsters that try and take pizza from the other players. We also played Castle Panic, which is a strategy game.

I am having fun learning my songs for music class. We programmed our Dash robot to play some of the songs. Here is one I programmed. The timing isn't exact because Dash can't do 8th notes.

Mom built a tower out of these tiles that was 8 layers tall. I had to try a few times
to beat it. My tallest was 11 layers, and that is the current record!

Mali Week 17

One fun thing I did this week was make cardboard skis for a few of my brother Max's plushie penguins and then I put a white blanket on the stairs and had the penguins ski down it. I took some pictures. I also made them ski passes. I also made some containers for one of my plush dogs and I made him a collar and a plush bone. I sewed the bone by hand and I think it is one of the best things I have sewn by hand so far. It actually still was shaped like a bone after we turned it right side out and I stuffed it.

I worked on my Toe By Toe lessons. I read some of the mini books we have to practice.

I am doing so much better at my chord transitions for music class. I even practice on my own when Mom isn't around to help me. We had fun programming our Dash robot to play some of our songs. Mom helped me program it to play Blue Sky.

Mali Weeks 15-16

I got a photo album and we got some of my photos printed so I could put them in the album. This week I took pictures of all of our pets. One of the pictures was really funny. It is our black cat Noni and he looks really grumpy in the picture. He is a black cat and kind of hard to take pictures of. My dad also bought me some roses when we were at Costco and I took pictures of those, too.

In our science lesson, the teachers had liquid nitrogen and they put some cheese puffs into the liquid nitrogen and then Math Dad (one of the teachers) ate one, and he blew "smoke" out of his nose and mouth. It wasn't really smoke, just the cold vapor of the nitrogen coming off but it looked really funny.

I have been practicing my red chord to blue chord transition for music class. It is pretty tricky for me and I keep wanting to use my 4 finger instead of my 3, but my mom explained to me how it is important to practice correct fingering so I get muscle memory. So I am trying it and it is getting a little easier. I like the Bunny Builds a Birdhouse song.

I helped mom make the rolls for Thanksgiving. It is the recipe my grandma uses and we all really like it. I like working with dough so it was fun. You can make the rolls in a lot of different shapes. We did clovers and pull-aparts.

Max Weeks 15-16

I have been working on a lot of Bitsbox projects. I am getting pretty good at typing them faster and I also have been practicing my typing lessons on typing.com.  Here are some of the apps I have coded recently:

Airdrop Hero

DESERT TORTOISE (This one I changed to be a tortoise instead of the space rockets and stuff because I like tortoises.)

What Does the Troll Say

Operation Alien Force This was the original one that I made changes to so I could make my desert tortoise game.

When I was coding Operation Alien Force I got really stuck because I kept getting an error message that I couldn't figure out the problem. My mom ended up helping me and we got it fixed. Part of it we ended up just retyping, figuring maybe there was something we just couldn't spot that was causing the problem.

Mali Week 14

We went to the Tracy Aviary this week. My favorite birds were the barn owls. I had never seen them so close. They are much bigger than I thought they would be. I also liked the burrowing owls.

These are some pictures I took on Election Day a couple weeks ago. My mom had done a Biden/Trump Dinovember so I set up some pictures with the dinos and their signs and took pictures.

For Daddy Fun Time we went to see the lights at University Mall and I took my camera and took some pictures.

In science we learned about glow in the dark things and the different ways things can glow, including the animals that can glow.

I did my Toe By Toe lessons and practiced math facts.

I drew these TacoCats this week.

Max Week 14

I worked on a new BitsBox coding project this week. It was called BlockyFlock.

My BlockyFlock App

We went to the Tracy Aviary this week. My favorite bird there was a little duck called the Red Shoveler. It was really small and chubby. We didn't get a good picture of the ducks but here is the info sign.

In Science we learned about why spicy things taste hot and why minty things taste cold. They have chemicals that bind with the hot or cold receptors on our tongues. I thought that was interesting. I don't really like spicy foods.

I went over OW words that have the long O sound. Like SNOW/THROW/KNOW.

I did math and language arts.

I am having a lot of fun drawing pictures on our boogie boards. Here is one of the drawings I did this week.

Max Week 13

This week I finished the next unit in my Language Arts program. For math I filled in missing numbers on number lines and also compared numbers in the hundreds and matched numbers with their pictures as shown with base ten blocks. In science we learned about plants. In History we learned about Australia and New Zealand. We played Bellz also this week and that was fun. It is a magnetic game. We had music class. We have been practicing songs with the red and yellow chords. I did an app in my BitsBox as well this week. It was a flying dragon. I had fun changing the dragon to a more cartoony dragon and then to a penguin, which didn't make sense really but I liked it.

Our Christmas countdowns made from halloween candy

Playing with the dinos after Dinovember

I had to read the words on a popsicle stick and try and drop them into a container on the ground. It was pretty easy except for the last stick, which for some reason took me like six tries!

Mali Week 13

This week I did lessons in my Toe By Toe and I also did math. One of my math activities was dealing with and counting money, focusing on dimes and pennies In history we learned about Australia and New Zealand. In science we learned about plants and how they grow new plants. Some plants have special cells called meristem cells that make it so a part of a plant can grow a whole new plant. My mom ordered some wooden gingerbread man cutouts and we decorated them. We played a game where we hid them around the house. We also made six and I wrote "Happy Holidays" cards and we delivered them to some neighbors. Mom mom helped me make a cardboard Gingerbread House and I decorated it. We also made sugar cookies.
