Week 16 - Max

L. Arts: I did a reading assessment. I learned about the double E phonogram. Mom read me a story about bunnies and I answered some questions about it.

Math: I am working on subtraction within 10. I did some workbook pages and I also did some Dreambox lessons.

Science: We learned about how scientists group animals by their characteristics. We learned about different groups in the animal kingdom and their defining characteristics. We went to the Butterfly Biosphere at Thanksgiving Point. We went in the bee room where we hadn’t gone before. It was cool because you could see the bees working and they had a plexiglass hive that we could look into.

History: We learned about the Phoenicians. We learned about how they invented a way to get the purple dye from ocean snails. It was really really stinky though. Purple day was three times more expensive than gold per pound. We also learned about how they had unique ways to make glass.
Music: We practiced baby steps on the staff. We sang our Five Fat Turkeys song. We practiced our handsigns and repeating note sequences. We also did some introduction to reading music notes on the staff and playing our bells to follow the notes.

Tech (Engineering): We didn’t do any specific engineering projects this week but we did go to the Ninja Playground where we got to interact with a lot of simple machines, especially ramps and levers and pulleys. There is a “teeter totter” sort of thing that you walk across but you also have to balance on it. Lots of neat tricky things to try. Oh actually we did make an engineering project at one of our co-op classes. We made a model of a hand to show how the tendons work to move the fingers.

Week 16 - Mali

L. Arts: I did lesson ten in All About Reading. I used a die to select different words on my practice page. It was fun. I am practicing short vowel words with o in the middle.

Math: I did Dreambox lessons about identifying numbers in the teens on a ten frame.

Science: We learned about how scientists group animals by their characteristics. We learned about different groups in the animal kingdom and their defining characteristics. We went to the Butterfly Biosphere at Thanksgiving Point. We went in the bee room where we hadn’t gone before. I made a book of fingerprint characters this week. Here are a few of the pages

Mali Weeks 14-15

L. Arts: I finished Lesson 9 in All About Reading 1. I read the story The Bad Rat in my reader. I also did a couple lessons on Reading Eggs and practiced my flashcards of words and phonograms. I did some Teach Your Monster to Read activities, too.

Math: I did some lessons on Dreambox. They were different ones using 10 frames to identify numbers in the teens and also to make a combination in the fewest moves.

Science: We watched the next episode of Cosmos. This episode was about Venus and how the atmosphere there is responsible for making it so hot. It talked about the atmosphere on Earth and how we are seeing change in the climate because of the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted. At co-op we learned about dinosaurs and fossils and how sometimes dinosaurs tracks got made into fossils, too.

History: We learned about the story of Moses and how he was raised by the Egyptian Pharaoh's daughter. Also about the story of the Exodus of the Israelites.

Music: We had a class this week without parents attending. We practiced our songs and identified baby steps on our bells. A major scale is made up of 8 baby steps.

Tech (Engineering): We built a fort with our mats and clips and a blanket and a table my brother built at his maker class. We also assembled some paper masks my mom brought home from an activity. We also built with the foam bricks at Thanksgiving Point.

I made a stop motion video at the Curiosity Museum

I drew some comics on the whiteboard

Max Weeks14-15

L. Arts: I read three new books in the I See Sam series. I did a lesson in my language arts program. I played some Teach Your Monster to Read lessons.

Math: Max- I did a lot of Dreambox. I explored negative numbers and also two digit numbers. I also did activities about finding the nearest multiple of 10 among two digit numbers.

Science: We watched the next episode of Cosmos. This episode was about Venus and how the atmosphere there is responsible for making it so hot. It talked about the atmosphere on Earth and how we are seeing change in the climate because of the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted. Music: We had a class this week without parents attending. We practiced our songs and identified baby steps on our bells. A major scale is made up of 8 baby steps. The new song Five Fat Turkeys are We is really silly and fun.

Tech (Engineering): We built a fort with our mats and clips and a blanket and a table my brother built at his maker class. We also assembled some paper masks my mom brought home from an activity. We also built with the foam bricks at Thanksgiving Point.

Some spelling practice

Making imprint "fossils"

Making tracks "fossils"

I made my math blocks penguin a Thor hammer

I finished coloring my mask. I don't really enjoy coloring so
I was pretty tired when I was done, but I like how it turned out.

Max - Week 13

L. Arts: I read two of the review practice sheets in the back of the book. I did a worksheet on identifying nouns and verbs. I read a new story from the I See Sam series, Matt at Bat. I read some mini books, including Clocks.

Math: I played Number Dice Junior with my mom few times and also with my sister. I practiced using as many of the five days as I could to make a target number. I won. I also did some workbook pages practicing addition and some Dreambox lessons on the computer.

Science: We learned about atoms. We built models with Skittles and also as a group with balloons. We learned that the atoms of different elements have different numbers of protons, neutrons and electrons.

History: We learned about King Tutankhamen. He wasn’t a very important or notable pharaoh but his tomb wasn’t discovered until the early 1900s so he is really famous. His tomb was undisturbed which was notable because so many were raided.
Music: We focused a lot on baby steps on the staff. A major chord is made up of all baby steps. A baby step goes from a line to a space or a space to a line. We identified mi-re-do and sol-sol-do in our Circle to the Left song.

Tech (Engineering): We built a fort wall patterned after Jamestown with the building stuff at Thanksgiving Point. We also built cup towers with a bunch of cups we had gotten for a neighborhood party game. We built a really tall one.

Admiring the Dinovember dinos one morning

Some spelling words. We noticed just now that I spelled "have" wrong. Oops!
